The New Milford Center is Lackawanna College’s newest addition. Located at 693 Main Street in New Milford (Susquehanna County), it is within convenient driving distance of Interstate 81. Being almost exactly half way between Scranton, PA and Binghamton, NY, the New Milford Center provides a wonderful alternative to students not able to travel out of the area.
The New Milford Center was opened in March of 2007 when Director Ryan Stalker and Assistant Director Jennifer Fifth established a small storefront office on Main Street. Today the Center is thriving, offering seven full Associate’s Degree programs (as well as the general education requirements for sixteen other LC degrees) and servicing nearly 40 students, nearly all of whom reside in Susquehanna County. In addition to a state-of-the-art computer lab located behind their Main Street office, the New Milford Center utilizes Blue Ridge High School, as well as the Susquehanna County Literacy Center to provide classroom space for its ever growing student body.
With the recent increase in natural gas production in Susquehanna County, the New Milford Center is in the process of creating a degree in Natural Gas Technology. The goal of this degree is to train individuals to move into supervisory and business roles within the natural gas industry. This new degree program is scheduled to begin in the Fall Semester of 2009 and local, as well as nationally recognized members of the gas industry have begun to show their support for the New Milford center through funding as well as internship opportunities.
